It's your Party!

It's your Party!

Check out all the photo editing cgonsa just did for It’s Your Party! photo gallery. Amy did not have time to do this herself so she sent me her event images and I prepped them in photoshop and uploaded them to her site. Wow does Amy Goldman do some fine events! I was so excited to prep so I could see all the details she puts into each and every event. Her events are a beautiful work of artistry. Such creativity, style and flair. SEE it right here! Fix: UPS shipping calculator for regular daily pickup

Friday, January 14th, 2011

This notice only applies to clients utilizing UPS Shipping Calculators with the “Regular Daily Pickup” setting selected in the Shipping Calculators admin. Clients using “Customer Counter” may safely ignore this announcement.

The UPS has changed their API — and the “Regular Daily Pickup” option no longer returns the correct prices. For some reason, that method returns the same rates as the “Customer Counter” option — fortunately, the “One Time Pickup” option now returns the same rates as what “Regular Daily Pickup” used to return — so, adding this code:

Code:
if ($RateChart == ‘Regular+Daily+Pickup’) {
   $RateChart = ‘One+Time+Pickup’;
}

in the file inc/cart_functions.php

immediately *after* this line (around line 357, depending on your shopping catalog version):

Code:
$RateChart = value_from_id(‘tbl_ups_rate_chart’, ‘rate_chart_id’, ‘rate_chart’, $SHIPPING_CALCULATOR_CONTROL->ups_rate_chart_id);

will give you the correct prices for “Regular Daily Pickup”.

IMPORTANT: Blogger.com changes with ftp publishing

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Many of you received an email from blogger notifying  they will no longer support FTP publishing in Blogger after March 26, 2010. This means your blog will still be viewable but you will no longer be able to publish.

With the use of a migration tool you will be able to switch to a blogger managed url using a  blogspot domain. The migration tool will be available February 22, 2010.

Subject: Important: Changes to Blogger FTP Service

Dear FTP user:

You are receiving this e-mail because one or more of your blogs at Blogger.com are set up to publish via FTP. We recently announced a planned shut-down of FTP support on Blogger Buzz (the official Blogger blog),  and wanted to make sure you saw the announcement. We will be following up with more information via e-mail in the weeks ahead, and regularly updating a blog dedicated to this service shut-down here: http://blogger-ftp.blogspot.com/.

The full text of the announcement at Blogger Buzz follows.

Last May, we discussed a number of challenges facing[1] Blogger users who relied on FTP to publish their blogs. FTP remains a significant drain on our ability to improve Blogger: only .5% of active blogs are published via FTP — yet the percentage of our engineering resources devoted to supporting FTP vastly exceeds that. On top of this, critical infrastructure that our FTP support relies on at Google will soon become unavailable, which would require that we completely rewrite the code that handles our FTP processing.

Three years ago we launched Custom Domains[2] to give users the simplicity of Blogger, the scalability of Google hosting, and the flexibility of hosting your blog at your own URL. Last year’s post discussed the advantages of custom domains over FTP[3] and addressed a number of reasons users have continued to use FTP publishing. (If you’re interested in reading more about Custom Domains, our Help Center has a good overview[4] of how to use them on your blog.) In evaluating the investment needed to continue supporting FTP, we have decided that we could not justify diverting further engineering resources away from building new features for all users.

For that reason, we are announcing today that we will no longer support FTP publishing in Blogger after March 26, 2010. We realize that this will not necessarily be welcome news for some users, and we are committed to making the transition as seamless as possible. To that end:

We are building a migration tool that will walk users through a migration from their current URL to a Blogger-managed URL (either a Custom Domain or a Blogspot URL) that will be available to all users the week of February 22. This tool will handle redirecting traffic from the old URL to the new URL, and will handle the vast majority of situations.

  • We will be providing a dedicated blog[5] and help documentation
  • Blogger team members will also be available to answer questions on the forum, comments on the blog, and in a few scheduled conference calls once the tool is released.

We have a number of big releases planned in 2010. While we recognize that this decision will frustrate some users, we look forward to showing you the many great things on the way. Thanks for using Blogger.Regards,

How often to update your shopping catalog

Monday, December 28th, 2009

ecommerce shopping catalog updates!Technology changes rapidly so be sure you always are on top of updates, security patches, and upgrades to your data base driven shopping catalog system.  Not keeping up with updates could cause compatibility issues, cause a security risk to others on your servers, your visitors who enter your site, your customers, and believe it or not, yourself.  In the worse case scenerio, your website could shut down and not be recoverable. Things do not last long in this business without maintenance.  I recommend never going longer than one year and more often if a security patch or urgent update for any reason is necessary. Please contact me if you are my client and want to receive an update.

cgonsa redesigned!

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Hi – Welcome to the launch of my new blog and website!

It has been long overdue for a website overhaul so we got a serious face lift.  It took me some time, it is really hard to design your own site!

I wanted to stick with the original color scheme of brown, pink, and pistachio green. I love putting colors together and these three colors just look yummy to me. Yummy as in ice cream colors… Friendly’s flavors, chocolate marshmallow, black raspberry and pistachio were three of my favorites growing up.  I wanted to switch the main background to a damask from the pink green stripe with white center curl. The custom stripe with swirl was stolen over a year ago and my copyright was infringed when it was resold countless times.  So I decided to change the back out to something more interesting and retire my old to my for sale premade section.

I enlarged and further detailed the header to include more of the boutique illustrations that are my unique signature style and have become so trendy. Large illustrative art has caught on to become trendy in web design this year. I re-did the animation, updating the girly character rotating in the wrought iron sign, and added the animated doggy and sparkles. Most of the art used in the new header are vectors I have created for clients so it truly does reflect my unique style in web design.

One thing I tried to accomplish with the new web design was to make everything flow smoother, less wordy, and easier to navigate. I got rid of the vertical navigation and now use horizontal navigation. I also accomplished my goal of simplifying updates for myself by changing content management systems. Hopefully I will be excited to update again because for a long time I have dreaded updates due to the overwhelming time it took.

The blog was redesigned – my last system had a built in rss feed that I could apply to my frontpage without having to use blogger or wordpress. The blog design is seamless with the web design and has lots of white space. It has a little author icon and blurb which is another trend this year in design. I will be using the new wordpress blog to post tips, tools, and helpful information to my clients and others who it applies.

I hope you like the new site and find it easier to use. Still lots to tweak and refine.
