I design e-commerce websites for clients, and most of them have a blog. Many clients tell me they are lost for ideas for posting on their shopping blog leaving big gaps between posts. This article is intended to resolve the loss of ideas. Think of your blog as your own business magazine. Write to sell subscriptions, adding some of your personality and flair to shine through. You want to post frequently, daily is ideal but weekly may seem more realistic to some. This should not be a monthly subscription for people unlike most print magazine subscriptions. You want to create a buzz. Stale blogs just don’t keep visitors or search engines from coming back. Here are 14 ideas: 1.) The obvious - new, sale, promos, contests, coming soon, going going gone! Add some interest to the post, personalize it, share insight, your opinion, and a feeling or two. Get your writing style groove on. 2.) Designer or product reviews, or even better, go get the interviews. 3.) Help, how to guides, checklists, tools, case studies, articles related to your theme or anything your target audience is interested in. 4.) Weekly or monthly articles, “in every issue” type thing, just like the popular print magazines do. Get your creative juices flowing. Go for originality, seek inspiration, and put a twist to something really fun. Use a catchy phrase, people will remember and look for. 4.) Trend forecast and “what’s hot” for your theme. 5.) Top Sellers - weekly, monthly by category...you decide what suits you or is not just the same old format! 6.) If you see something wonderful in theme with your site and target audience on another’s site, plug it! Maybe someone will do the same for you. Don’t forget to ask permission and give due credit. What better way to let them know you are about to scratch their back. 8.) Press, praise, and testimonials you receive. Share the joy! 9.) As seen in… See products you carry on celebrities, well known figures, or in print magazines, post it...I want what they have!. 10.)Holiday, gift, or seasonal shopping guides. 11.)Current events and ongoing events of interest to your target audience. 12.)Brag pages-customers turn model, and you can even create a contest out of it. Customers submit photos wearing what they bought. 13) Interactive posts - ask questions, ask for feedback, or create a poll 14.)Let people get to know you. A business blog is a great way to meet you, the person behind the scene. People generally feel more inclined to buy from you when you share, open up a bit, and offer an opportunity to relate. If you have something funny, odd, inspirational or interesting that vaguely relates to your theme, write about it. Keep it balanced, not too much but just enough. Keep in check with the business image you want to portray. ©2007 copyright Cgonsa, cgonsa.com
